Creativities was established by Debbie Gersh, a native Houstonian, in 1989.  With degrees in both Fine Arts and Interior Design, Debbie has merged her lifelong love of art and design through her many years of work in interior design.

Debbie takes a multi-faceted approach to a design project.  She begins by getting to know her clients, establishing a strong sense of trust, and building a good working relationship.  Equally important is understanding how a client “learns” and processes information.  “My job is to teach my clients how to understand the language of design.  If I know how they best learn that language, I can do a much better job in recommending and explaining design suggestions and solutions”.

Bringing many years of experience to the table, Debbie learns what works in the current space and what does not, establishing her clients’ goals by finding out how they live and use their home.  Only after the space planning needs are addressed does she work on the style and look of the space.  Debbie uses her talent for understanding a person’s personality and defining a look that expresses who they are.

Debbie is often asked “What is your style?”  The answer is always the same “It doesn’t matter what my personal style is, what matters is what your style is”.  She takes pride in working with clients to define and refine their style and taste.  A client said of her that “she is definitely not a cookie cutter designer” and that she “exposes clients to new ideas in a way that is challenging but not threatening”.

Creativities has a team of contractors, showroom vendors and workrooms that are an invaluable part of her team, with whom she has worked for many years.  They save her clients time and money, and work with her to ensure the client the best result.

Most important, Debbie is truly empathetic and supportive to the client during a project or renovation.  When asked to summarize what makes Debbie stand out in her field, she responded “I listen to my clients and communicate effectively to achieve their design goals.  I present ideas based on the client’s taste and give personal attention to all aspects of the project.  I cherish my clients’ dreams as if they were my own”.
